FSU netters whack Bakersfield 8-1 Behind the over-powering play of Jean LeClercq and Vinnie Giudicclli. the Fresno Slate men's tennis tfTam blazed past the Roadfuncrs of Cal-State Bakersfield 8-1 Sunday in Bakersfield. The outcome was never in doubt as the Bulldogs dominated the singles competition and farad well in the doubles to raise their season record to 2-1. LeClercq. the 'Dogs' No. 1 player and l^o. 39 in the country, had luV problems early against Kevin Thornton, but the junior from France rebounded and won, going away 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. LeClercq's record is 2-1. FSU's No.2 player. John Soto, won in two sets over Tim Handley. Soto tallied consecutive 6-4 scores in improving to 2- 1. Giudicelli continued to add on to his Fresno State record foi career wins by pinning a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 loss on Nelson Banes. Giudicelli, 3-0 on the season, has now posted 77 career victories with the Bulldogs. In the doubles competition, LeClercq and Eric Sieglc buried Thornton and Banes 6-0, 6-1. The Roadrunners tasted victory when Handley and Dave Kruger combined on a strong third set to beat the 'Dogs' No. 2 unit of Giudicelli and Chris Gerety. 6-3. 3-6. 6-1.
