And this, from the editor of a paper that receives seats "courtside at Selland Arena," and rubs elbows with "Bulldog Foun¬ dation luminaries." Is it any wonder? Frankly, I thought those students who were interested in football would go to the games anyway, and those that weren't wouldn't. 1 didn't really see many bridges that needed to be gapped, or "alienation," a well-worn watchword two years before. Some students may be peeved about the seating situation at Selland Arena, and rightly so. But it seems most students are behind the Bulldogs in spirit. Maybe Mr. Sam Williams, who writes in today's Letters to the Editor — and miscontrues sarcasm for sincerity — could help the "students get back into the Red Wave" by leading a charge to the door of the athleticdirector's office and demanding midcourt seats for the students who want to be there with their Bulldogs. Not one to be easily intimidated, I decided to stay with it, and I'm very glad I did. The 1985-86 academic year was one that will long be remembered in the annals of Fresno Stale athletics. The Bulldogs made strong showings in many sports, foremost of which Jim Sweeney's Bulldogs, who garnered a PCAA championship and capped an undefeated season by whalloping previously unbeaten Bowling Green University in Cal Bowl V. And first-year Softball coach, Margie Wright, guided her team to the No. 2 spot in the country for six consecutive weeks, the highest ranking a Fresno State team But it doesn't end there. Four other sports — soccer, wrestling, water polo and golf— broke inlo the nation's top 20. And I'm sure we'll be hearing from Bob Bennett's Diamond 'Dogs and newly appointed basketball coach Ron Adams' If it has been a year of triumph, it has also been a year of change. In the midst of all the Bulldogmania, two key figures synonymous'with Fresno State athletics — Jack Lengyel and Boyd Grant — have departed. And now that FSU has the MOVD liUtMMI.
