2-THE DAILY COLLEGIAN Monday, November 18, 1974 Editorial Zionist misconceptions At a time when the rest of the world Is attempting to rationally discuss the problems of the Middle East, lt Is somewhat disappoint¬ ing to see that some apologists for Israel are doing nothing more than throwing out the same tired misconceptions, contradictions and stereotypes which have allowed the pressing problems there to go unresolved for more than 25 years (see letter by James Newsom Mr. Newsom's letter, unfortunately, raises more questions than It resolves. How democratic can a state be when Its essential nature Is undemocratic? If the Palestinians, numbering more than three million, were allowed to return to their homeland, wouldn't the present structure of government in Israel be changed radically? Tales of genocide In the Middle East are being told bv all sides. They add nothing to a solution. We could ask Mr. Newsom about the 1948 Israeli massacre of 254 Arab villagers at Deir Yassln, launched by the 'Stern Gang," but we won't.
