From Page 2 By the time the project is over, the students will have talked to at least 20 people from each cultural group. If the project proves successful, van dec Elst foresees the possibility of seek¬ ing an HEW grant to establish an Ethnic Heritage Center. HEW is funding 20 such centers now. Currently the Multi-Cultural Institute is attached to the anthropology depart¬ ment, but it is designed to involve the university at large. Van der Elst foresees involving other disciplines such as health, business, or agriculture. "If our agribusinessmen understood the Asian views on doing business, the balance of trade might swing our way. We see the MCI (Multi-Cultural Insti¬ tute) primarily as developing a clearing house of information as well as doing research, but a clearing house in a great number of areas that go way beyond anthropology," he said. Student researcher Kay Mickel said she is involved in the project because she wants her children to know about their heritage which is part Armenian. 'I want them to know how rich their culture is," she said, 'and it gives us an opportunity to compare In Fresno. We really need to understand differences rather than be suspicious of different groups Blacks and Chicanos don't realize that Armenians had it hard and had to adapt.
