August 29, 1978 Fall sports in review By BOB JACOBS Fresno State's water polo team will kick off the 1978 fall sports sea when they host the Fresno Stair mament on September 8th and 9th. After an 8-9 record last season. he team will set Its sights on chai¬ ning to succeed Long Beach State s PCAA water polo champions. Other schools vying for that title will be Pep- perdlne UC Irvine. UCSanta Barbara. San Jose State. University of the Pacific and Long Beach State CSUF la presently looking for a new water polo coach following the resignation last week of Rick Rozarlo Coach Red Estes' cross-country tram will have their first taste of com¬ petition this season when they com Ion Run on the September 9th Following a schedule that a trip lo Nevada lo romprti Las Vegas Invitational Septembei 23rd. San Jose State. Utah Stale. and Long Beach State. The CSUF women's volleyball team will open play on September 15th at CSU Northrldge. After compiling an 8 5 mark last year. Coach Lellanl Overstreet's team will hope to be a contender this season In the Northern California Athletic Association. They play a 17 game schedule plus one tournament. Including "home and home" matches against Cal Poly Pomona. University of San Francisco. San Jose State. University of the Pacific. UC Berkeley.
