The Daily Collegian Feb.7,1979 I Track and field squad Foul weather hampers bulldog harriers A few elements will be working against the CSUF track and field squad in competition this season. One ele¬ ment supplied by nature has already worked against them without even a meet gone by For a brief period prior to the sunny days that arrived, recently, it seemed the weather had scheduled itself as the squad's first opponent. Bulldog Coach Dutch Warmerdam sized up the weather's hampering of the Dogs' training, including the shackles it placed on his sprinters. "It's been very rough,* Warmerdam said of the weather. 'For the last two weeks, we've had a terrible amount of rain and cold. It's the worst two weeks (of preparation) I can remember. It's hurt mostly the sprinters - we weren't in very good shape to start with.* The" official season start comes this Saturday at 1 p.m. on the campus track KENNEL BOOKSTORE (Special Spring BOOK SALE :4a 05005. Bulldogs to host Long Beach c f By STEVE KIPP Daily Cojlegian Sports Editor A Long Beach basketball squad, which will be a long way from home at Fresno's Selland Arena Thursday night, surprisingly stands a long way from the top of the PCAA heap The 49ers, who will face the CSUF Bulldogs at 7:35 p.m. Thursday, had been selected as one of the three favor¬ ites to take the title along with Fuller- ton and Utah State. After winning its first eight straight games, Long Beach didn't lose until facing Duke there when they lost 79-78. Since then, the 49ers have dropped nine of their last 12 games, and stand 4*/» games out of first with a 3-5 PCAA mark Injuries have played a key role in the demise of the 49ers.
