The Senate, however, showed a definite interest in the program, Morrison "said Conrad assured the Senate his office was willing to do the research and would begin work on plans. "What we have now is a very cramp ed and dangerous situation,* he said "It gets awfully crowded up there.' In the interview, Ditora affirmed a feeling of AS support with a detailed plan of the project "We'd be willing to help out in any way we can,* he said, 'but when it comes to money it' s hard to predict " Mayor Whitehurst Whitehurst also maintains a philo¬ sophy that career politicians lose a perspective of what their constituents 'I think you (the career politician) start to see things differently and you don t have the same feel for things that the average guy does * He added that it was 'healthy' for people in public life to get out of it for a while and if they're still interested get back into it at a later date. If Whitehurst s track record is any indication of what the future holds whatever he decides to do will most likely be a successful endeavor 1981 and he would decide then whether to run again.
