He had imported numerous transfers, including a few that had flunked out of their previous schools. Long Beach marked the sixth stop of one Tark discipline, earning the journeycr the nickname, "Marco Polo." Recruiting violations there eventually led to Tark's departure to Las Vegas. I'm not pointingany lingers, but there's a rotten apple in every bunch. I'm not implying UNLV is committing any son of violations, but because of specuation, I'm antithetically partial to rooting for a ' prestigious institution like Duke Univer¬ sity, where academics are foremost. I just hope in, the NCAA tournament, good guys win, like in the movies, because that certainly wasnt true in the PCAA. In Hill's second plate appearance of the inning, he sent the Beavers' center fielder running, slashing a lengthy two-bagger in the alley. Hill's blast got Haruta around to score. The inning finally was put to an end on an Evin Edwards fly ball. But the dam¬ age done lofted FSU to a convincing 7-1 advantage. The majority of his goals, established prior to the new season, will not be met. But Salone is grateful for the opportunity afforded to him through athletics and hopes to give back to bas¬ ketball what it has given to him. "I want to put what I knowaboul sports back into sports," said Salone, who is majoring in sports psychology. "That's what I really want to get into, helping athletes gel a mental edge in sports. Ill probably coach some day, eventually. That's a long-term goal. "College athletics has become a really big business. That's the only scary thing about me staying in basketball in the future. If a guy has to win to get paid more money, maybe it will hurt his morals." In his own opinion, the last two years at Fresno State have seen Brian Salone grow tremendously as a human being. Through triumph as well as adversity he has deve-" loped a strength that will remain at the center of his life for years to come.
