He appears to have the whole thing figured Out, but you wouldn't know from just looking at He speaks of just wanting a little happiness, of being a simple person. But complexity spills out once he gets going and the personality gets fired up. "1 used to be bashful, and didn't have anything to say," El'Woods stated, forcefully. "Then I saw other people think like I do. We're all in the same race. The human race." Racial tension is at the top of El'Woods' concerns, along with the condition of youth, the poor, and the list goes on. But he insists that it's all jusl common sense. "I'm 64, but I'm not out of it." El'Woods said. El'Woods is majoring in Sociology, but he has a history of achievements to rival many young professionals. Founding the Documents of Truth DOT promotes "the proper appre¬ ciation for the vast contribution made to the world civilization by members of the Black Race." it reads in a speech given by El'Woods at the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of the Bay Area. "Kids ask the same questions today," El'Woods said. He spoke of the neighborhood children when he was growing up. "The little white kid just like I didnt" El'Woods tells of what he sees today. "Now there's white kids and black kids sitting together, laughing at each other." This reflects another of his simple philosophies: "If you gotta lean, lean to the positive." He admits being a little pessimistic sometimes, and just because he doesn't smile all the time doesnt mean he's angry at anyone. "At 64, I'm not competing with anybody, and dont have to be like anybody," he El'Woods told of narrow escapes thai helped him see the condition of people. Once while crossing the street near CSUF, he was nearly run down. " 'Get outa the .way, old man!" the guy yells. A man wouldnt do that and run." Another time, he was looking for a parking space at a shopping cen¬ ter, and after he found a space, he was nearly run over by an angry driver. El'Woods forcefully told the driver, "Dont you ever as long as you walk this earth do that again!" There was a child in the car, El'Woods said, "so 1 didnt get too angry." El'Woods calls racism "an insidious disease." But it is not a disease with¬ out a cure. "Progress is being made to eradicate it, but the edges are still rough. "There's interaction, but a lot of tension, "El'Woods said. Studying cultures cuts dovni the intimidation." The DOT tbeme deals with show- S^H-'WOOOftpa^H
