Dr. Loy Bilderback, history professor, proposed to the Budget Committee of the Academic Senate on Nov. 20 that a rule or guideline should be passed that will pro¬ hibit the use of university funds for buying off-campus lunches. Bilderback gave two reasons for his making the proposal. The first was, "any¬ thing we spend on university guest, the less money we have to spend on. anything else," said Bilderback. His second reason was that it just looks bad. "It's the sort of thing that is subject to misinterpretation,"* he said. Dr. Joel Best, department cnalrmaTTbr | sociology, is the chairman of the Budget Committee of the Academic Senate and said most of the committee members do not sec an immediate need for a guideline. "The consensus was things arc being ^ done reasonably and sensibly,"said Best. Best said most off-campus lunches the university pays for are in the form of recruiting procedures when an applicant is being screened fora position. He said up until the last seven or eight years the uni¬ versity never had any money to use in recruiting faculty and administrators. Best remembered that he was hired over the phone — sight unseen.
