"The Spider," as he is called by his teammates, comes off of a 35-11 season in 1985 and looks to gain not only All-American status in the 167-pound class, but possibly a national champion- "If Fred picks up where he left off last season, he is going to be tough to beat," said DeLiddo. A good omen for Little is tbe fact that not one wrestler in the nation returning in the 167-pound class had as many victo- Another junior returnee DeLiddo is high on is Allen Richburg. "He isnt the most talented kid out there,"said DeLiddo, "but he works extremely hard. I think he will have a big year for us." Richburg, after two yean at Fresno State, is the leading returnee in tbe career- wins department with 59. That toul puu him in a tie for sixth on thc Bulldogs all- time wins list. Richburg, who wrestles in the 150-pound class, gained a repuUtion last season as an All-American spoiler going 3-3 against the country's top. Junior returnee John O'Brien works out of the Impound class for ihe 'Dogs. Afler a frethman campaign in which he registered a 17-17 record, O'Brien was 5-6 last year. "He is looking real good right now," says DeLiddo. The Bulldogs senior class also looks like it will have to be reckoned with down the line. Gone are the names that ltd last year's Fresno Sute to its first 20-win season: names like Pablo Saenz, Joe Ismay, and Cliff Goose. Doug Carnation, who last year won 23 matches, leads a strong seniorcUss for ihe Bulldogs. Carnation couldnt wrestle in last years Pacific Coast Athletic Associa¬ tion championships because of a rib injury. However, Carnation was 5-0-1 against his PCAA foes. This season barring injury, Carnation will get his chance to be the PCAA champion. Another senior looking to make his mark in his final season of eligibility is Scott Bilyeu. Bilyeu was 22-17 in the 177- pound weight class last season. "Scott has been sick lately," said De¬ Liddo, "he looks a little better than be did last year, and he's further along than he was at this time last year." Observers believe that Bilyeu will be the man to beat in Ihe 177-pound cUss in the PCAA. . _ - In the heavyweight division, DeLiddo hasatoughchoiceto make between Chris Mast, last year's 25-match winner, and , who will be given the surf¬ ing spot early in the season. matches last season, compiling a 5-5-1 DeLiddo considers redshirting Mast mark. this season, so he can have a chance to In tbe lighter weights, at 118-poonds placein the nationals next year.
