November 1,1971 The Daily CaUegian Dumke accused of 'stacking the deck' on review and Raymond Rydell, will complete its evaluation by early January and submit their findings to the Chancellor The Chancellor will then deliver the findings along with his recommendations to the Board of Trustees at their lanuary meeting The Chancellor s letter said the chairman of the review committee will meet with Baxter and one representative each from the Academic Senate, the Associated Students, the non-academic staff, the alumni and the Advisory Board This group will then decide upon a list of approximately 30 to 40 individuals to be asked to evaluate Baxter's perfcirmance. These evaluations will be incorporated into a comprehensive file on Baxter. The evaluations will not be publicly released At the same time the evaluations are being conducted, according to Dum- ke's letter, Baxter will be asked to •prepare a self-assessment document outlining his objectives upon assuming office and analyzing (his) progress in achieving chose effectives " He will be allowed to review the entire file and 'will be permitted to add commentaries, rebuttals or additional evidence (which) he deems appropriate ' He will not be allowed to delete any materials submitted to the review members of the Executive Committee said that Dumke should have no say over faculty contributions to the comprehensive file on Baxter -The faculty should engage in its own evaluation of the president,' said Chester Cote, chairman of the Geography Department. -The Chancellor should not be allowed to tell us what input we can have in Baxter's review,* said committee member Philip Walker Cole said the faculty would be accused of stacking the deck against Baxter by submitting their evaluations of his stewardship to the review com- 'But there will be two stacked decks then,* said Cole This letter is a stacked deck (in Baxter's favor) from the first word to the finish* 'It's a slap In the face of the'faculty," said Walker.
