The Warriors won, 62-7. In the Reedley game, however, it was the Bulldogs who prevailed, winning by a score of 39-0. There was a bit of bad news for FSC (that's for Fresno State College) when one of their stars, a quarterback by the name of Kelley, was sidelined in the second period with a broken leg. He must nol have been too vita! to the Fresno attack, though, because the Bulldogs went on to post a 7-2 record instead. One was a 42-year-old who played every down and threw away his headgear so the fans could see his gray hair. Another team member was decked out for the Fourth of July, including one blue sock and one red. The Barbarians didn't gain yardage on any of their attempts during the first half. The highlight of the game for the visitors was a play during which a considerably overweight Barbarian receiver caught a pass while silling on a Fresno State defender. Needless to say, the Bulldogs won the game. The final score was 63-6. A week or two after the Barbarian fiasco, the Bulldog! began preparing for a game with a team of Fresno firemen. Unfortunately (7) the contest never came, off. It was cancelled because of a lack of fan support — everyone was out of town for the Cal-Stanford game. Stanford had some pretty good teams in the raid-arid late 1920s. Under the gui¬ dance of the Itgendary Glenn "Pop" Warner, the Indians, as they were called, made it to the Rose Bowl in 1927 on the basis of a perfect 10-0 season in 1926. It was this 1926 squad which provided the Bulldogs with their first exposure to the big time. Coach Jones and company travelled north for the season opener against the Indians, coming away losers, 44-7.
