Bob Jacobsen got the start, and after a two-hit, two-inning stint, he was followed by a parade of Eric Solberg, winning pitcher Mark Gardner, Ken Galloway, Vince Barger and John Of all people, it was Hoover, the *Dogt' record-setting ace, who wat the only one to run into any real trouble. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the ninth, courtesy of a Tony Conllemo run- scoring single off losing pitcher Rob Wassenaar in the fifth and an Eddie Jacoborun-scoringdouble in the seventh. Such Uht the case witi the Fretno State softball team, however. At least according to Bulldog coach Donna Pickel. "I really think our schedule was our biggttt detriment," taid Pickel, reflecting on a NorPae conference season in which the Bulldogs racked up a 9-3 record only to finish second in the conference behind UOP. "ItVtoo bad we played ill our conference games so early, because right now we are playing better than it any Despite finithing second in the NorPae conference, Fresno State still has an excellent shot at extending its season into May — it's just going to take a little more work than previous years. The 10th ranked Bulldogs are battling for one of sixteen spots in tbe upcoming NCAA regional playoff.. Latt year Fretno State earned an automatic bid to the regionals after taking the NorPae title outright with a perfect 12-0 mark.
