Telephone: 225-5150 i CSUF Rodeo Club more than riding The CSUF Rodeo Club is for people who like to watch rodeo, enjoy horses, or just like to meet people. While the CSUF rodeo team is Formed from the club, it does not make up the majority of the team. Craig Allen, president of the club, says that there are approximately 25 members in the club. Only 10 people of that are on the team. Students join, Allen says, because they would like'to be involved in rodeo, but do not actually want to do it. The rodeo club puts on a rodeoevery year. Teams from California and Reno, Nevada come to compete. Allen says there are seven schools that regularly compete, and three or lour that come oc¬ casionally. Bill Pellegrini, a member of the club, says the club acts as a booster club for the team. Members will go out during a team practice and help those competing. Without the Rodeo Club, Pellegrini says, there would be no rodeo. Elaine Pearson, secretary for the club and girls' team captain, says the rodeo is not to make money, but to publicize the dub. She says it costs between $7,000 and $8,000 to put on the event. The club does get some money from the school, but Allen says that in the past year that amount has been cut quite a bit. The team no longer has funds to cover the travel expenses for their trips. Pearson says with entry fees (usually $67 for each person), gas, food and lodging expenses, one rodeo can cost $110 each. With nine rodeos a year, the cut in the budget has really been felt in the club membership, Allen says. The club does plan fund raisers to help cover the bills. They plan an Urban Cowboy dance, and a possible mechani¬ cal bull riding contest. Debi Welton says she joined because it is one of the only clubs where you do not have to actually participate in the event. She says members can go out to help and learn from the team members, but do not have to rodeo if they don't want The club Is 'not prestigious' she says, and "anybody looking for fun' can join. Pellegrini says that those who join Want to be 'affiliated with the rodeo team' and help it out. While the team has not placed highly in recent years, Allen says it is 'looking for a good year this year because the Focus on CSUFclubs competition is cut down." Until this year, . Because the turn out for the rodeo last year was fairly «mall, Pearson says they would like to tie the rodeo into Vintage Days. In doing that, she says, people can become more aware that there is a Rodeo Club. CSUF Rodeo Club

While the CSUF rodeo team is Formed
from the club, it does not make up the
