College Bowl has a very strong following on the east coast, but so far, the west has won two out of three national titles. Organized College Bowl competition is in its fourth year of re- emergence following the end of the 17 yeaacun of the TV show. Lundal says that competition on the national level is tough and serious, but the intramural games are, 'a lot of fun .* He hopes that college bowl will gain some exposure this year, and would like to see more people competing, *we need new talent, it'sout there,'he said. Unfortunately, the usual challenge for the national college bowl champions to play the British Commonwealth champs was not possible last year due to lack of television syndication. Lundal hopes the international game will take place this year and give the gtme more exposure. According to Lundal, College Bowl is a game of strategy and quick recall and response, it's not something that can really be studied for, 'It's basically a lifetime of being interested in a vast variety of subjects, and being able to re¬ trieve information quickly...players gain and become better through experience, there is a, lot of strategy involved and they have to team to catch a flavor for' the way questions are phrased, sort of 1 sophisticated.' THE DAILY COLLEGIAN CSUF, the defending national College Bowl champs are getting ready to start the three step process of fielding this year'steam. College Bowl Is a collegiate quiz game, and was a television show for many years. It is played between two teams of four players each who are asked a broad variety of questions and must respond quickly to earn team points. Applications are now available In the student activities office and in Commons room four for the Intramural competi¬ tion. This is the first step in putting to¬ gether this years' team. There will be a dorm and independent league, and the winners of each will compete for title of intramural champs. The dorm games will be Oct. 13, and the teams will continue play until a champion is determined. Intramural competition will take place In the com¬ mons lounge on Oct. 15 and the intra¬ mural playoffs will follow. Following the Intramural games, any player who competed in at least one round will be eligible to try out for the CSUF varsity team. A written test plus ■ evaluation of the players' performance during practice sessions will determine the five players who will go to regional and perhaps national competition. Four players plus one alternate will travel with team advisor. Bob Lundal, who is hoping to host the regional com¬ petition here at CSUF. Last year Fresno was the only team to als.
