THE DAILY COLLEGIAN LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Another four years? To the editor: It is difficult to rebute Tom Bohigian's editorial, "Cater deserves another because most of what he says is his opinion and he is entitled to his oplr I feel, though, that I am entitled to my opinion; that it is not a question as to whether Carter deserves another term, but as to whether the United States de¬ serves another four years of President Carter Carter does have some good points, unfortunately they do not outweigh his liabilities His greatest shortcoming is a lack of a sense of direction for our country This leads to management by crisis. His solutions to these crisis do not necessarily form a coherent pattern this lack of vision has caused the appear¬ ance of ineffectual leadership. Also, Carter's obsession with peace has resulted in policy of peace at any price One must not be deceived! The Russians knew they could move into Afghanistan with impunity for two rea- First. Carter Is not prepared for any direct confrontation with the Russians and secondly, protestation to the contary his administration has seen the military decline to the point where they are prob¬ ably incapable of responding to a con¬ ventional threat without the use of ther¬ mal nuclear devises Carter's human rights policy has emphasized over and over again During the Democratic convention, the phrase "Economic Justice" was expounded. Is it economic justice when so much of a citi¬ zen's income is appropriated for income taxes, inflation (which is another form of taxation) and social security? No, it is not I call this economic Injustice. There is no justice in a system which taxes the productive hard working citi¬ zen to redistribute it to an ever increa¬ sing unproductive segment ol society I call this involuntary servitude. During the presidential campaign the news media has shown partiality in favor of Carter from the very beginning. An excellent example of this is Carter's statement that if Reagan were elected President he would turn the blacks against the whites, separate the North from the South and the Jews would be pitted against the Christians. What could be more stupid and ill-advised than this? The news media did nothing out gloss over this issue. One can ima¬ gine the reaction on the other hand if Reagan had said this instead. We must remember the goal of the Russians has always been the complete domination of the world community. Our country's safety demands and deserves a strong leader. Nothing in Carter's first term has shown this ability. The com¬ munist leaders are fully aware of this. I would not be the least surprised if they stage the release of our American hos¬ tages before the upcoming election to in¬ sure that Carter, the least threatening candidate, is re-elected. Victor Yost 'Bomb Iran' lyrics" vs. 'death to Carter' To the editor: In response to recent letters concern¬ ing the "Bomb Iran' song, I offer my two cents. It's only natural that people from a country that has banned all popular music would see censorship as the right way to respond to another point of view.. It seems hypocritical though for them to whine about song lyrics when we have to listen to their people chant "Death to Carter* on the nightly news. « Other than that, Iranians on campus have been extraordinarily quiet this semester, almost too quiet. Could it be that getting their butts kicked by the Iraqis for a month has Uught them a little humility? i Could it be they don't care for the taste of humble pie? Could It be they realize their wealth of oil Is going up in smoke and with it any chance of being more than a two-bit little country with no future? Oddly enough, for all their loud revolutionary talk in the past, I haven't any great exodus of patriotic Iran¬ ians back to defend their cherished Islamic republic! It seems as Cagney used to say, 'They can dish it out, but they just can' t Uke it. * Oh enough of this for now—I feel much better. Excuse my redneck for showing (literally). I'm only practicing my rhetoric for when President Raygun jumps into the saddle. Cary Sellers 'Sexploitation' of athletic department To the editor: I was amazed, amused and not a little put out to leam that CSUF Athletics has tuition scholarships for women as sex objects (Insight article, Oct. 15), but that it has so little money for women athletes that CSUF cannot, for example, field a women's track team. Since the name for this extraordinary group of young women has not yet been selected, may I suggest 'The Sexpteiu- JuneCill Professor of Foreign Languages All denominations can be 'born again' To the editor: There was a recent article In the Col¬ legian titled ' 'Born Again' and Evolu¬ tion Theories, Debated." Since the term born again has been bandied about in the media lately, I decided to look up the references to this term in the Bible. Does born again denote some kind of cult group or is it something consistent with Christian theology both Catholic and Protestant? In the gospel of John the 3rd chapter, Jesus said to a Jewis scholar, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God". Nicodemus, the scholar, then said to Jesus, "How can a man be bom when he is old?.He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be bom, can he?" Jesus replied, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of Cod That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is bom of the Spirit is spirit " In 1st John 4:7 John the apos¬ tle writes, "Beloved let us love one another, for love is from Cod; and every one who loves is born of Cod and knows Cod." to the fifth chapter of the same epistle John writes, "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world". He feels it is not proper to put those issues in the Constitution. He is against the notion of insulting social doctrine into the Constitution. He added, 'I don't know, maybe I'm against amending the Constitution." He touched briefly on his role in Congress regarding the Westland's water district. He said he could lecture for an hour but smiled saying, "I don't figure students want to hear another lecture.* Pashayan said there is some contro¬ versy regarding the 1902 Interpretation of a reclamation water bill.
