July 1, 19*3 COLLEGIAN — SUMMER SESSION Poga Thre* Ball Park Scuttled Once More By ED PISTON It looks llko the Fresno State College baseball team will still be without a home field come next spring. -r-v College officials revealedrhat apparently In the confused last moments of the 1963 legislative session about one and a half mil¬ lion dollars was cut from the State Colleges' budget This was earmarked for minor construction on the campuses of the State College System. : The $76,000 for the beginning of the FSC ballpark was ln this Item. Finance Allocate* At the last moment $500,000 was put back In the colleges' budget to be spent as allocated by the state department of finance. Assemblyman George Zenovtch, who was Instrumental ln getting the $75,000 ln this budget along with Senator Hugh Burns and Assemblyman Garrlgus, said, "I am deeply disturbed and badly disappointed by this turn of events ln regard to the FSC ball¬ park." " i Need Claasroonis With a need for more class¬ rooms on all state college cam¬ puses. It looks like a lost cause for a new ballpark. So once again the proposed new FSC ballpark Is scuttled. Again the Fresno citizens who furnished the time, materials and money to build the original ball¬ park have received nothing for their pains. IM Tournament Competition Starts BOWLING Duane Morford and Shirley Thompson are the leaders as the summer session Intramural bowl¬ ing tournament goes Into Its sec¬ ond week at Blackstone Bowl. Play la held eacn Monday at 3 PH. Latecomers can still shoot for the trophies for the high single game and high series ln both men's and women's divisions. The charge for threonines Is $1.30 with jahoes being furnished. Morford rolled 181-176-214 — 571 to take an ll-pin lead ln tbe men's division over Jim Blake. Ken Wright had the high game, a nifty 223, while Merle Knapp rolled a 218 and Bruce Trulll a 201. Trulll Is In third place ln overall competition with a 547 series. Shirley Thompson's 532 series not only put her ahead In the women's division but wss the best women's series rolled ln the three year history of the SS Intramural tournament. She also had the high game of 196 and the second high game of 184. Mrs. Elgorriaga, who received the bachelor of arts degree and the general secondary teaching credential from Fresno State Col¬ lege, has been teaching Spanish for some nine years from the junior high school level through grade 12. She has also taught Spanish for four years at the ele¬ mentary school level. She has served as a consultant for Foreign Languages In the Ele¬ mentary School for New York State. Mrs. Elgorriaga has been on four staffs of National Defense Education Act Institutes, working as a demonstration teacher, meth¬ ods Instructor, native Informant, Spanish House parent and librari¬ an-social director. NCAA Coaches Honor Sirman Fresno State golf star Johnny Slrman has been awarded honor¬ able mention on the All-Ameri¬ can team selected by the National College Golf Coaches Association. Slrman's biggest victory this year came in the Southern Cali¬ fornia Intercollegiate champion¬ ships. Another top performance was his two match victories over John Lot2 ot San Jose State. The Lots wins assumed extra significance when Lots went all the way to the NCAA finals be¬ fore loaslng to B. H. SIkes of Ark¬ ansas on the 37th hole.
