It you don't believe It take a look at the athletic field at one Fresno State College. The weather Is right, but don't tell tho weather man It's still early February, One can hear the sounds of spring heard every year about this time from the northeast side of tho campus. The sun just makes It louder aa rain seems to distract from these audio pleasantries. Track Times You can hear the numbers. "56, 57, 58 . . ." being reeled off by coach Dutch Warmerdam as he runs his track charges through their paces. The moans and groans of all athletes blends tn as they try to work their way back Into top shape for what lies ahead. And they keep on working.. ., Another sound Is tlmt of the horsehider species of the Athletic field. These men are known to some tut baseball players and coach Pete Befden's, "slide" nnd "a lot of fire Joo" are resd collector'a items. One also hears the "fore" of coach Larry Pape's golfers, or "love" call of the tennis players under Coach Harry Miller. Tho latter must work without their "leader" as Miller Is still busy with basketball. Finally, if things quiet down a bit you might be able hear the "splashing" of coach Ara Hairabedlan's aqua-men from Inside their pool. Work • Work It's all a part of the oft-used phrase, "the wonderful world of sports." We as spectators enjoy watching the men at their best but few spectators realise the work that goes Into producing the final product so that the athletes will be ready for "show." Spring sports are Just a part of lt and this campus owes a lot to the outstanding athletic program conducted here at "Bulldogland." Men like Flint Hanner. Cecil Coleman, and Hal Beatty. to name Just three, have brought the incentive to the athletes to work for their accomplish men ts. Spring Football By the way, another sound of spring Is that of football practice for those Interested the time to get signed up is 3 PM Monday In room 110 of the men's gym. Practice starts Feb. IS for Coleman'! 1963 edition of the Bulldog football team. Well, the whole point Is that these men work not only for them selves but for the school, which Involves every student. HERE AJID THERE The announcement recently that Homer Beatty Is to head the football fortunes at I-os Angeles State does not lessen the headaches of rival California Collegiate Athletic Association coaches. Beatty has complied a winning percentage of .837 In his 17 years of head coaching, His overall record stands at 139 wins, against 29 losses snd three ties. Football Is rising in the CCAA! Bad news for San Diego State basketball fans came this week 6-7 center Bob Mackey and fi-4 forward Forrest Glitliero. both sopho¬ mores, are scholsstlcnlly ineligible for CCAA conference play. The Aitecs are only a half a game out of first place and the loss of these men really dampens their hopes for the crown. Mackey was the team's leading scorer. JV's Begin Road Trip Hitting the road for a tw< game series against Coalinga Col' lege and Lhe Lemoore Naval Air Station this week, the Fresno JV a-TrlH-try to Increase Its four game winning streak. Jack Adler's Bullpups chinned themselves above the .500.mark last week, defeating Pacific Bible College. 75-54. the Cal Poly Frosh. 74-69, and Lemoore. 74- 64. The wins brought the Bull, pups a season record of 5-4. Sparking the current Junior varsity surge Is freshman guard Gary Marian!, a Castro Valley High School standout who is rip¬ ping the nets for a. 16.1 average. Tha "quartcrbock" guard hss highlighted the Bnllpup attack all season long and coach Adler rate* him a top candidate for a varsity guard starting spot nest year. Forward Terry Hogne has s 10.6 average and is battling team¬ mate Gary Hill (center) for the rebounding lead on this year's team. Hill. Well, spring Is here . . . almost. It you don't believe It take a look
at the athletic field at one Fresno State College. The weather Is right,

One can hear the sounds of spring heard every year about this time
