Juliana Picks
The Champ
By JACK McCLENEGHAN
Collegian Sports Editor
Professional athletics are big business in this era and the living
proof of that statement can be seen In your neighborhood theater
tomorrow evening around S PM when two heavyweights square off
against each other.
I'm talking about the Floyd Patterson-So any Llston match which
will grass around !.5 million dollars for everyone concerned with lt
—mainly Dncle Sam.
Two years sgo when I was new to the campus I saw my first
boxing match. It was Just that, because Intercollegiate boxing Is
entirely different from prlze-flghting. Fresno State'a former boxing
coach. Joe Julians, founded boxing on thjs campus. It didn't last
long. People ln higher places were disturbed with the boxing deaths
that occurred In the NCAA finals In Wisconsin.
Saw The End
Wrestling was being promoted and Juliana knew the end was
coming soon to the sport at State. But for lhat one year. I never
enjoyed any sport more than intercollegiate boxing. It drew the
students and tbe townspeople.
Now that Juliana Is no longer connected with the coaching end of
the sport at FSC, he Is kept busy with Instruction as the head of
Fresno's recreation division of tbe physical education department.
I wanted to get an expert's opinion on tomorrow night's titanic so I
looked up Joe ln bis brand new office.

Juliana without any hesitation. I believe the tight will go the dis¬
tance and Patterson will get the decision. I know a lot of people
will disagree with my forecast, but I do think Patterson will win it,"
Even though many people think Llston will destroy Patterson there
is no doubt that champion Floyd is the sentimental favorite. As
Juliana explained lt. "he Is respected, a gentleman and clean-cut
young man who lives like the heavyweight champion of the world
should."
