-The Frvsno State Colby Colltgion— TV STUDENTS ARE SKEPTICAL Campus Meets Deadline ABOUT CLASS INSTRUCTION By Richard Krlknva Collegian StsH Writer. Mid-term evalusUon regarding the college's television class in English A shows that the students as a whole do not believe that class Instruction by television Is very beneficial. The class, taught by Miss Helen S hater, associate professor ot English, considered the method to be less effective in all four categories of a question aire of¬ fered at mid-term as compared to a questional re answered at the beginning of the course. One hundred and eighty-three returned the 7lrst questional™ In¬ dicating that TV Instruction would be about the same oa regu¬ lar class instruction. However, the new evaluation taken from the second question¬ al™ at mid-term shows that TV instruction is "somewhat less" effective than regular class in¬ struction. The same four questions were asked on both question aires. The students answered each question with ono of five responses. These answers were: "Much more,'" "a little more.'' "about the same." "somewhat less" and "much less." The first question was: "Com¬ pared with regular classroom in¬ struction, do you think TV will help you learn?" At the begin¬ ning of Ihe course 19 thought it would help "much more." Only three thought that Ii would help "much less," However, at mid¬ term, 13 felt that It Is helping "much more" and 27 tell that it Is helping "much less." The second question i "Compared-with regular class lec¬ ture, how well do you think the TV lecture will hold your atten¬ tion T" In the first queatlonalre *Z thought It would help "much more," with five submitting that It would help "much leas." In tho second queatlonalre 26 felt that it helped and 27 thought that It was not an advantage. Question three was: "Compared Dr. Kaplan To Talk Politics Dr. Abraham Kaplan, chairman of ihe UCLA philosophy depart¬ ment, will discuss "Politics and Anxiety" in tho Llllte Theater Tuesday at 1 PH. Dr. Kaplan said he would ex¬ plore the psychodyn amies of poli¬ tical, ^attitudes in his discussion, with particular reference to Ihe "radical right." The college Fine Arts Board Is sponsoring Dr. Kaplan's appear¬ ance. Admission Is free and the public Is invited. Dr. Kaplan was a research as¬ sociate on the Rockefeller project on language symbolism and co¬ author with Harold Lassewll of "Power and Society." A native of Russia, Dr. Kaplan Is now a naturalized American citizen, He has been chalrmai the UCLA philosophy department since 1952 and also served as t consultant to the Rand Corpora¬ tion and to the Ramo-Wooldrldge Compauy.
