Art Department To Hold Open House Tomorrow An exhibit of wood block prints by,Amy KosaJ, r. native Fresnsn and former Fresno State College art student, is on display, in the art gallery of the Art-Home Eco¬ nomics Building. Tbe exhibit will continue through April 12 with an open house Saturday from 3 to 9:30 PM In connection with Fresno State's golden anniversary Char- tor Day dinner. Tho gallery will also he open April G from 8 to 9:30 PM as well aa from 8 AM to G PM on weekdays. Magazine Fessture Tho collection consists of 40 black and white and multicolored woodcuts done In the past 10 years. One of the features Is s magaaine cover Miss Kassi de¬ signed for the November, 1959, cover of the Scientific American Magaslne; it Is a representation in color of a mathematical cur¬ iosity known ss a "Graecc-Latln square of order 10." •> Mlse Kasal attended Fresno State College for three years and then completed her bachelor of arts degree at the University of Minnesota. She has studied and worked in New York City for .14 Traveled Much In addition. Miss Kasal has traveled extensively in Europe aud Mexico and spent one year In Junan on a Fulbtight graat. While at Fresno State, she won a na¬ tional prise from the Museum of Modern Art for screen printing. She began her work In wood block printing at the New School for Social Research In New Tork. Miss Kasal has exhibited her work throughout tbe United States and In Japan, Including shows at the Tokyo Cultural Cen¬ ter lit Japan and Gallery East and Duo Gallery In New York City. Already this year, one college was forced to chop 76 pages from Its annual because of lack of personnel. One Junior col¬ lege staff in the valley will be unable to produce a book until August and another Is fighting the possibility of- losing Its an¬ nual altogether. There hss been much specula¬ tion by some authorities st tbe college that the Fresno State's Campus would be "washed onto the rocks this year because of an "almost certain failure" by the annual staff to meet Its Apr... l deadline. Mac Kelthley. editor of the Campus, along with his short- handed staff of 10, are stubborn Individuals who don't believe lu predictions. Nor do they believe that putting out a second rate book Is better than nothing. "This year's annual will be the largest in FSC history." reported Kelthley. "The book will Include 296 pages, eight more than It had ln 1961." "And we expect to meet our deadline," he added. In fact, the annual stafr sent 30 of Its 99 remaining pages to the printers Monday, seven days ahead of schedule. Staff members have worked an average of 10 hours per week for one unit of credit to get what they consider "the best book In the school's history," ready by deadline. Much of the time spent by the annual staff Is after 6 PM and it often continues up until midnight. A large staff turnover st se¬ mester break caused production to slow to a creep. Kelthley said the class should definitely be made into a full year course the first semester nine coeds worked on the year book with two men. Tho spring semester finds Just three women on the staff and eight men. Members of the Luncheon Club and SWAG are helping with the index. Kelthley said that this sec¬ tion of the book waa one of the toughest snd will take approxi¬ mately 40 man hours. ' Kelthley gave a few hints as to what this year's annual will be like.
