Wrestling Starts Tonight FSC Mixes 1 With LBS -The Fresno Stat* College Collegian— By Dave Hanna intercollegiate wrestling will mske its opening debut at Fresno State tonight when the Bulldog grappters mix holds with Long Beach State College. The dual meet Is slated to start at 7;4S PM, with three freshman matches scheduled to start at 7:45 PM. This Is the first year wrestling has been roeognUcd as an official part of the Bulldog sports pro¬ gram. Last year Fresno competed in wrestling on an unofficial basis. Sports fans, who will probably find intercollegiate wrestling more interesting and entertaining than the professional brand, have Hoi > of tile flni light weight college grapplers In the state. Diminutive t'hiunplons They are Neil Yoshlda, 123 pounds. n.nd Eddie Davies, 130 pounds. Yoshlda won the North¬ ern California title last year on ihe unofficial team, and Is ex¬ pected to repeat this year. Davies, a transfer from Fresno City College. Is undefeated in 59 collegiate matches, and has two state junior college titles to his Coach Max Kimberly will give a brief explanation of the scoring system prior to tonight's matches. ltuUdog Lineup Fresno's startling lineup will be Yoshida, 123; Davies, 130; Ron Bush, 137: Allen Berroldi. There will be no radio broad cast of the game. The 'Dogs have another tough one tomorrow night In San Dtego against a dark horse Altec squad. Both Fresno and Long Beach are undefeated In conference play, each having won twice. San Diego is Involved In a three-way tie for third with a 1-1 record. The Bulldogs are 9-4 overall against 8-5 for Long Beach and 5-9 for San Diego but have had extreme difficulty winning away from home. They've won only once In five tries on the road this year and only three limes last season. In league play last year, they finished 1-4 on the road. Most of the burden of breaking the "road Jinx" will fall on the shoulders of veteran Mike McFer¬ son and sophomore Tony Burr. McFerson 1h averaging 21.0 points per game and Burr, 17.:!. Toni Jacobsen, another soph, is the only other player in double fig¬ ures at 10.3. Long Beach has a well-balanced attack led by All-CCAA veterans Bill Florentine and Dave Jones. Florentine is the league's top scorer with a 28-point average. He set a CCAA record last week by scoring 3K points against San Fernando Stale. 6 All-Timers To Play Wednesday will e's all-time basketball ■ on display when the varsity faces the FSC gym next Wednesday night. Of the top six scorers In Fresno State history, three are Included on ihe Alumni roster, headed by Gary Alcorn, who holds most of tho school scoring and rebounding records, Alcorn, who saw service with the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers-'after playing with the Bulldogs from 1956 to 1969. Is the No. 1 man on Ihe all-time scoring list with 1,101 points. Also on the team are Babe Williams {No. 4 with MA points) and Al Brown (sixth with 825). The No. 2 man, Mike McFerson, will be playing for the varsity. The only absentees are Leu Brown, working in Southern Cali¬ fornia, and Rolland Todd, with the ABL San Francisco Salnls.
