The Official Star Trek Trivia Book by Rafe Needleman has hit the stands and poses a fresh challenge to' all trekkies who vegetate before Star Trek reruns-orwho have now flocked to see how well Mr. Sulu has aged in the mo¬ tion picture version of the popular TV series • The book has more than 600 questions designed to baffle all those who travelled with Kirk and crew in their five year mission to explore the galaxy. Pahinui and his band of Hawaiian musicians, joined by eclectic instrumen¬ talist Ry Cooder, perform mostly tradi¬ tional songs with native Polynesian lyrics— But several "post-American contact* Hawaiian songs found their way 'onto the album too. , .' The unabashedly trite Blue Hawaiian Moonlight gives die listener a sense of inevitability, as if even this unique re¬ cording endeavor must culminate with Don Ho stepping from behind the pahoehoe walls and breaking into a schmaltzy rendition of Tiny Bubbles. It is just this aspect that some-people wilt like about The Cabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band. After all, Hawaiian shirts are excessively colorful-loud, some people would say. The questions come very trivial..The book asks you to'name the only creature in the history of Star Track with poison fangs. Of course every self respecting trekkie knows it is the Mugato on the planet Neural. Physical fitness courses planned for Roeding Park by Linda Marty There will be a new addition at Roeding Park this summer with the construction of three physical fitness courses at the public facility. The three courses are being installed as a community service project of the. " A map of the conversation and Olympic course, to be built at Reeding Park. North Fresno Rotary Club at a cost of $70,000. According to Rotary president Besley Lewis Sr., the project involves construction of a wheelchair course, conversation pace course, and an. Olympic course. Each of the .three courses is. designed with different physical abilities in mind, said Lewis— The wheelchair* course will be a half- mile long, with an eight-foot concrete path and 15 exercise stations. The course will provide "a place -to practice and perfect skills necessary to be more independent and get around without, help,' according to a Rotary Club pre¬ pared statement. The second course, the conversation pace area is recommended by doctors for cardiac and stroke patients and others recuperating from major surgery, said Lewis. The course is also geared toward use by senior citizens and is' three- quarters of a mile long with fifteen exercise stations along it. The area's unique name comes from the placement of several chairs along the path for those exercising to sit and rest and talk with others, according to Lewis. The last course, called the Olympic course is one mile long and contains twenty exercise stations. This area is J designed for more strenuous activities, and according to Lewis is similar to the par course at Woodward Park. Lewis noted that the three courses are a first for any city in the country/ 'No¬ body has ever had even two in the same place,'he said: Roeding Pari: was chosen as the installation site because of its "central location," Lewis said.
