Thursday afternoon in Las Vegas, right fielder Karin Richter grabbed center stage. Richter had a perfect day at the plate, going | 6-fot-6 in a double-header sweep of the Runmn' Rebels. No. 6-ranked Fresno State cashed in 23 hits during the twin-bill, roughing up UNLV 11-1 and 7-1 to raise its record to 48-14. 28-5 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association. Lori Romeiro-Gardner won the first game to improve to 23-5, while Melanie Parrent picked up a win in the nightcap. Parrent. the winner of nine in a row is 20-8. Barkley is also a master dunker, but his dunks don't have the beauty of Jordan's. What Barkley packs is pure power. His assaults on the rim rattle not only the backboard, but the fans in the arena.. Barkley is now the ultimate power forward in the league, as witnessed by the 23 points and 14.6 rebounds he averaged this year. What makes him such a marvel is how he gets his 255 pounds off the floor so quickly, whether it be a crash dunk or a nasty rebound. Barkley also has a habit of not shaving the day of a game, Vhkh gives him a rather mtimidating > look. The beauty of Barkley is that his talk during interviews is often as tough and sharp as one of the elbows he throws under the boards. The NBA, which in the late 70s and early '80's was seen as a troubled league, is now standing as strong as it ever has, and such young performers as Jordan, WiDdns, and Barkley can only look forward to continued N success in the future. With the playoffs ^ drawing to a close, and another Laker-Celtic clash seeming probable, the league should toast itself for such an excellent and exciting turnaround.
