The 'Dogs fell to the hard-hitting Rainbow Wahines 15-5.15-7 and 15-13 on Friday night, and were swept again Saturday night by scores of 15-4, 15-8, and 15-11. lS^s The Bulldogs did very well in pre renting *■ i the ball from hitting the floor; however, J the No. 4 Wahines hit with such howitzer- like force that the 'Dogs could hardly prevent their digs from ending up in the overhead lights. The two wins improved the Wahines record to 21-4 and 11-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Association play. FresnoxState, now 6-19 and 3-9 in the PCAA, \yjll not get a break from Top Ten opponents, as No. I San Diego State invades South Gym tonight for a 7:30 bout.V On Friday night, FSU started very poorly and finished rather impressively. The Bulldogs fell behind 13-0 in the first game and looked tentative. Only a brief rally in the final moments prevented a •shutout. In the second game, a more intense Fresno State team held leads of 4-2. 6-4 and 7-5, but enabled the Wahines to score the final ten points and slate the win. The 'Dogs came close to salvaging a win in the third game, as three kills by Jenni McArtor gave them a 5-1 advantage. Hawaii, though, battled back to take a 7-6 lead, but the scrappy Bulldogs prevented the Wahines from pulling away. The'game was tied no fewer than seven times; the last one. a 13-13 deadlock, being broken when Hawaii's Mahina Eleniki pounded home a winner. The game and match was decided when FSU was called for a net violation on the next point. Hawaii was led by Diana Jessie's 15 kills, Tita Ahuna's nine kills and Martina Cinccrova's 28 assists. Fresno State got 11 kills from McArtor, eight from Denise Fowler and 19 assists from Traci Sliester. Saturday night's match saw the 'Dogs again fall quickly in game one, being blown out 15-4 in only 18 minutes. Fresno State grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second game, but the Wahines rallied to score the next ten points and go up 10-3. The teams went up and down the field and it looked like a tie was inevitable. In desperation, the 'Dogs hurried the ball upfield and before California knew what happened, Gleason had scored at the 1:09:50 mark. "The win definitely keeps our post¬ season hopes alive. A tie would not have done much good, but the win puts us in a good situation." Elgorriajga said. Fresno State has two more games left on its schedule. West coast powers University of San Francisco and UCLA appear to have tournament bids in the bag. the conclusion to Jim Bohannon's w of the 1986-87 NBA season. The NBA's Atlantic Division is the league's finest §nd there should be controversy over what team emerges to the top. The Boston Celtics were wonderful last year in their march to the championship. It was definitely their season and they earned the title. But Boston is not a young team ahd Robert Parish, Bill Walton and Dennis Johnson may be on their way down. There is no question that Larry Bird is the best and Kevin McHale is no slouch either. Having Len Bias would have made Boston the team to beat. Not having him could give Philadelphia the title. The 76crs were extremely busy in thc off-season rebuilding theirteam. Thc devas¬ tating Philadelphia front line, led by Charles Barkley. has bangers like Jeff Ruland. Cliff Robinson and Roy Hinson. Julius Ervingand Maurice Cheeks make a solid guard tandem. In Washington. Moses Maldne should have a great impact on the progress of 7-7 Manute Bol. One of the new favorites in the league. Bol has bulked up in the off season and should learn by playing along side Ma lone. I feel the Bullets will finish third above the New Jersey Nets and New York Knicks. After beating Boston in the Eastern Conference Championship, 1 project the Sixers will prove too much for the Lakers to handle and the title will return to Philadelphia. EXPERIENCE AIR FORCE NURSING.
