The recommendations were referred back to the L & L Committee after an hour-long SenateoafeajaAvhich included a heated exchange between Whalen and A'.S. adviser Cleo Bash about the role of the advisers. Whalen, who was asking for a more restrictive policy specifying only one adviser serve the A.S., was invited to present his views before the committee at Monday's meeting. Whalen was out of town at a CSU Board of Trustees meeting and failed to send a spokesman to L & L to express his opinions. "Since he's hot here to argue for. his point of view, I don't feel compelled to argue for hi m.".said A.S. Parliamentarian Ron Avedisian. "Bob was the only problem." said Greg Barfield, Chairman of the L & L Com¬ mittee'. "He wants one adviser for the SenatcMedia Council. L& Land Finance and Budget. "I like what we've done. We haven't . earned anyone else but the A.S. account¬ ant, and that's /or fiscal matters." he said. The committee also returned to the Senate its recommendation that Whalen no longer make committee appointments until the Student Court can be formed to review the current policy regarding presidential appointments to committees Whalen has filled vacancies on several Academic Senate. A.S. and university- widejcommittees since the semester began, since the semester began. The A.S. Bylaws allow the president to make appointments to the Student Court. Media Council and appoint a chair¬ person for the Election Committee, all with Senate approval, within the first five weeks of the fall semester. The Bylaws also allow the president* to appoint students to several standing committees serving thc president of the university: Academic Policy and Plan¬ ning. Academic Senate, l-aculty Personnel. Student Affairs. University Budget and University Personnel. Whalen made student appointments to these and other committees after the five- week period. The L & L Committee found the president still can make appointments to university-wide committees after five weeks have passed, but not to committees serving the Academic Senate. "Anything that does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Academic Senate is still fair game for Bob," said Barfield. "Any¬ thing that does fall under the jurisdiction of the Academic Senate is out of his hands." Reader to Daily Collegian articles and opinion are welcome. I was pleased to read that Mr. Henry Cole Stage 111 agreed with my response to a reader who lived in El Salvador but remained unconcerned about the mass murders being committed there by a U.S. puppet government. For those readers who may still disbelieve. I urge them not to take my word for it. There is plenty of documentation in thc campus library.
