This was to defeat the Bulldogs and spoil any chance of them coming in second place and receiving a bye in the first round of the WAC Championships in Las Vegas. Well neither team made good on their threats. Fresno State easily dominated the Owls on Friday 15-8.15-9,15- 6, and they returned the next night to destroy the Golden Hurricane, 15-4, 15-5. 15-6! The Bulldogs (10-3. 20-8) jumped out to an early 9-2 'lead in game one versus Tulsa, which in¬ cluded three kills from Anamie Buckelew. Leading 10-4, Malia Malu served out the final five points to give Fresno State the game. "I thought they played a lot tougher this time than they did last time." Buckelew said. "Wc wanted to come out strong and score the first few points and we did that." The second game was much 11ke the first as the Buldogs jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Then leading 12-5 Diana Nalbandian (nine kills) served the final three points to give Fresno State an insumountable lead. Tulsa (1-11. 6-27) never could get things started in any of ihe games as the Bulldogs'dominatcd every aspect of match. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Golf team take's fifth at 49er Collegiate Classic Fresno State shot a final round 289 Friday to take fifth place out of 15 teams at the CSU Long Beach 49er Collegiate Classic. The second annual event took place at the Virginia Country Gub in Long Beach. Leading the Bulldogs was sophomore Josh Watney, as he shot a final round 70 to tiefor sev¬ enth place with a three round 212. Also shooting 70 Friday was sophomore Ryan King, as he fin¬ ished tied for 17th with a 216 to¬ tal. Senior Gary Glazier also brought home a top-25 finish, as he tied for 25th place after shoot¬ ing a final round 72 for a 217 to¬ tal. "Our finish wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either," said Head Coach Mike Watney. "I really thought we would of done better on this course." i Winning the team champion¬ ship was UCLA with a a three- hole playoff with Pacific's Florian Brunhs.
