Doug Fralcy's 10-ycar-old BMFR record in the pole vault (18- 8 3/4) will be in jeopardy as three entries come in with personal bests of at least 19-0. The early favorite seems to be Dean Starkey, a three- time BMFR champion (PR of 19-4 1/2). with Nick Hysong (19-2 1/2) and three-time Olympian Tim Bright (19-1) not far behind. Former Bulldog and six-time All- American David Cox (18-9 1/4). Lance White (18-6 1/2). Mike Drummcy (18-6 1/2) and Kevin Brown (18-6 1/2) round out the in¬ vitational pole vault field. Former Bulldog Nicole Carroll (javelin) and Lacy Barbcs-Milcham (discus),both of whom made the 1996 Olympic team are also sched¬ uled to compete in the meet's "Prime Time" slot. At 2:25 p.m. on Saturday, the invitational masters 100 meters (for athletes aged 75 years1 and older) will take place. The eight athletes invited to compete include former U.S. Senator Alan Cranston; Sanger's Clarence Kilion, Chuck Mercurio of Southern California, Frank Toner of San Lcandro, former Stanford track coach and 1968 U.S. Olympic coach Payton Jordan, Al Fairchild, Pcrc Gartly and Clarence Trahan. Jordan, who was part of the world record-setting 4x110 yard Iqpi relay team at this meet in 1938 (40.5). hopes to set a new world record for athletes 80 years and older in the 100 meter (the current record is 15.3 set by Ban-y Ivers of Mexico in 1991). Making a return for its fourth year is the Producer's Dairy Fast¬ est Kid Contest (Saturday — 5:50 p.m.). The events pits elementary school children from Kings, Tulare. Fresno and Madera counties and the metropolitan Fresno and Clovis ar¬ eas who have won qualifying races.
