Nr California State University, Fresno Weather Partly Cloudy Light Wind high 59/low 43 FebruanS, 1997 Monreal chooses candidate for AVP post By Derek Walter The Daily Collegian Associated Students, Inc. officials are hopeful that the vacant administrative vice president slot will finally be filled during the ASI's first meeting of the Spring semester. Brady Daniel is scheduled to be consid¬ ered by the board during the next meeting, according to ASI President Tommy Monreal. He said Daniel is an ideal candidate, and has the kind of experience needed. "He is more than qualified." Monreal said. On his application, Brady said he held a leadership position with the U.S. Navy. He said he controlled a budget and its expendi¬ tures for three years. Brady said he was responsible for eight people in his department, according to his application. The application listed him as a finance major. Monreal said the ASI needs someone with a business background to help manage the budget difficulties. "He has a lot to offer us." Monreal said. On his application. Brady said he wanted "effective and efficient allocation of ASI funds." * "He wanted to become involved." Monreal said. Monreal said Daniel applied for the posi¬ tion last semester, but the Reality-control led board never considered him. 'They played a game with him." Monreal said. He has not affiliated himself with either political party, according to Monreal Monreal said this position needs to be filled as soon as possible. "We need an AVP," he said, "this position will soon come into play." Last semester. David Spivalo, legislative vice-president, was forced to step down due to academic ineligiblity. His position was filled by AVP Eileen Richardson, leaving the LVP slot open. Several candidates applied for the AVP slot, but all were rejected by the conserva¬ tive Reality party-dominated board. Richardson said she feels the candidates were not fairly evaluated, and the decisions were not based on merit. "Everything came into play outside of the Please see AVP page 5. Bulldog Diamond's new press box set to open in April By Derek Walter The Daily Collegian After a year long delay, the construction of Bulldog Diamond's press box will soon be completed, in hopes of draw¬ ing a College World Series. "If all goes well.. .[construc¬ tion will be complete] by the end of March, or early April." said Jan Winslow. assistant sports information director. "They're working really hard". Winslow said the completed press' box will strengthen the University's bid to host the Col¬ lege World Series in 1999 and 2000. "Our goal is to host a College World Series, and a press box is a big factor." said Winslow. Fresno State put in a bid to host the 1997 and 1998 seasons last year, but they were awarded lo Okla¬ homa City. Winslow said normally sites are awarded for a three-year stint, in¬ stead of two. She said this was en¬ couraging, leaving the door open for Fresno State to be awarded its bid later this year. "We have a one-of^a-kind sta- dium," she said. After talks with the Diamond Group. Fresno Stale Athletic Direc¬ tor Al Bohl agreed that ihe triple-A baseball club, the Fresno Grizzlies, could use Beiden Field for the 1998 season.
