Fresno State wins consolation at Pony Invite By Matthew Lievre Sports Writer FULLERTON- They say that good pitching will always beat good hitting, and that was the scenario this weekend for the Fresno State softball team at the Cal State Ful¬ lerton Pony Invitational. The Bulldogs (18-6) finished with three wins and two losses which put them in the consolation bracket, but it was a roller-coaster three wins that went along with two heat-breaking losses. Sunday's consolation game was an early WAC showdown as the Bulldogs met rival Cal State Northridge (26-6). The Bulldogs turned to Lindsay Parker to send them back home on a high note, and she rewarded her teammates with her best perfor¬ mance of the year. Fresno fell behind 1-0 in the third but tied it in the sixth, and went on to win it in the top of the seventh. Amber Wall led off with a double and was moved to third on a wild pitch, and eventually scored on another wild pitch for a 2-1 Bull¬ dog victory. Parker who picked up her sixth victory, without a defeat pitched a complete game allowing one earned run while striking out three. "It's a great way to end a tour¬ nament, because you can walk away from something like this bit¬ ter about your performance, and we played our best game today and that was good timing," Head Coach Margie Wright said. Fresno opened the tournament with a bang by defeating Ohio Uni¬ versity Thursday, 8-0. Nina Lindenberg led the 14 hit attack as she hit for the cycle. On the mound Jennifer Clark picked up her sev¬ enth win of the year and took a no- hitter into the fifth inning uhtil Staci Bellville broke it up.
