Swanson Telephone: (209) 278-5732 Netters wipe out Boise State, move to 16-4 By Casey Angle Staff Writer Fresno State won for the ninth time in their last ten matches today against Boise State, 6-1, at the Vista Tennis Club in Vista, Calif. The win was Fresno State's fourth of the week and improves the Bulldogs to 16-4 this season. Bulldog Head Coach Irene Har¬ ris liked the way her team played on Sunday after struggling against Colorado on Saturday. "I thought we played a lot better today," Harris said. "It helped that we won that point in doubles to start off." referring to the match between Fresno State's Ann Papi-Castro and Marta Pitarch and Boise State's Siiri Malm and Summer Redondo. "I think that relaxed us a little bit." Two Bulldog freshman notched their 20th wins over the season dur¬ ing the match. Liz Marpuri reached the 20-win mark with her, 6-1, 6-1, win over Maria Capuno at No. 2 and Shana Peete notched win No. 20 with a, 6-4,6-0, win over Heather Thiry at No. 5. Marta Pitarch's win at No. 3 was the 58th of her career. She now needs only three more wins to tie Mary Fallara and Karen Farquhar at sixth-place on Fresno State's all- time win list. The only setback for Fresno State came at No. 1 where Dora Djilianova lost for only the second time this season. She fell to 36th-ranked Gayleen McManus in three sets, halting her win streak at nine. Fresno State is now only five wins shy from the school record for single season which is 21. The Bulldogs have six regular season matches in addition to as many as three more matches in the Western Athletic Conference Championships to break the record. Singles No. 1 Gayleen McManus (BS) def.
