Lewitzky's company per¬ form is rare and that many see her as heroic in the dance world. "I heard she's incredible," said Erin Wintermeyer, a se¬ nior dance major. Lewitzky founded the Dance Theater of Los Ange¬ les in 1946 along with famed dancer Lester Horton. While Lewitzky no longer performs, she contin¬ ues to create dances for her company. Lewitzky's long list of . awards include: the 1992 Dance/USA Honor, the 1993 Artist of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County High School for Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 1977.
