Three of Monreal's candidates were in¬ terviewed and rejected outright. The remaining five nominees for confir¬ mation were postponed until next week's ASI senate meeting. Monreal's nominee for Administrative Vice President. David Stanley, was one of the three nominees rejected by the ASI senate. After being rejected Stanley said he was not surprised and will not reapply for the position. "They [Reality] have an overwhelming majority," said Stanley. "They rejected {me] the first time, they can do it again." One rejected nominee for ASl senate voiced her concern over the partisanship dis¬ played by the ASI senate. There seems to be a lot of red tape around here. I don't know how you get anything done around here," said an angry Ofelia Salgado, one of Monreal's rejected senate nominees. After rejecting Monreal's nominees Tammy Martinez, ASI senator and former Legislative Vice President, made a motion to recess the senate meeting and hold an ASI senate personnel committee meeting. Martinez based her motion on ASI bylaws that state that after two weeks of school have passed personnel committee meetings could be held to make personnel decisions. "The reason we said it was no longer in the presidents power to appoint is because of the disagreement between school weeks," Martinez said. Men's soccer keeps Santa Barbara winless By Luis Hernandez The Daily Collegian Good things happen to those who wait. And nobody knows that better than the Fresno State Bulldog's soccer men's team. The Bulldogs defeated the Santa Bar¬ bara Gauchos 2-0 at Bulldog Stadium last night in front of 1.262 fans. The Gauchos defense frustrated Fresno State's attack, but the Gauchos couldn't hold the Bulldog's offense off the scoreboard the whole game. \ Fresno improves to 2-0 for the season. Santa Barbara dropped to 0-1 -1 Santa Barbara's defense managed to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for 58 min¬ utes, until Senior Forward Mike Matson lofted the ball over the outstretched hand of substitute goalkeeper Trenton Ulicny. Fresno State had controlled the pace and field position up to that point. "We knew a goal was coming," Matson said. He added that Fresno State just needed to keep attack¬ ing, and that Santa Barbara was going to break and die after the goal. The Bulldogs did just that and were re¬ warded with a second goal at the 77th minute. Junior Forward Steve Patterson took the ball at the mulfield line and dashed 30 yards, beat¬ ing two defenders and, just inside the 18- yards box. blasted a line drive shot that keeper Ulicny never had a chance to save. "I shot it before* he (the goalkeeper) came out," Patterson said. "I had to hit hard. I was just trying to get a goal for us " Fresno(State used sharp, quick touch and go passes to find its way' into Santa Barbara's goal Fresno State's dominance also showed in the stat sheet.
