Gonzales-Gonzales' lawyer has filed the ten million dollar claim as a violation of international torture laws. But was it torture, or police re¬ straint? The fact that seems to be drift¬ ing into the background in this case is that Ms. Gonzales-Gonzales and her traveling companions are what we in this country like to call C-R-I-M-I-N-A-L-S. Not only did they illegally cross our border and intentionally attempt to evade law enforcement officials, they demonstrated for all the world to see what it means to 'resist arrest.' They broke the law, and a criminal should be treated a* such. What message is this case sending to those who want to illegally immigrate? According to The Fresno Bee, in the four days since the incident, the Border Patrol reported catching al¬ most 9,000 illegal aliens. I know—we're telling them, "Don't come over, but if you should and happen to get arrested, put up a fight, make sure they whack you a few times, get a lawyer, cry on TV, and rake in the dough!" The government of Mexico is outraged at how we treated their citizens! Well, if they treated their citizens a little better, maybe they wouldn't be swimming across the Rio Grande. *. It saddens and shocks me that a criminal who is not even a citizen of our great country can capitalize upon her arrest. The illegals incited the violence by picking a fight with deputies by giving chase and throwing objects. Let's learn the whole story before we're so quick to condemn our law enforcement officials.
