The phones will be made imme¬ diately available to certain pools of faculty and students in order to test not only use of the phones, but also the capacity of the new tower. Among the first to get the new phone services will be faculty, Rod¬ man scholars, participants in the student mentor program and gradu¬ ate students in the school of busi¬ ness, said Susan Vasquez, special assistant to the provost. Vasquez said much of the ben¬ efit of the phones comes to students indirectly, through improved secu¬ rity and more available faculty. "They can service the needs of the campus and thus the needs of the students," Vasquez said. Bergmann said that new uses and applications will be defined as cellular usage begins and as time goes on. About $ 156,000 of the $620,000 budget is distributed to various clubs, organizations, councils and cultural events recognized by the university. ASI President Kymberly Daniels said the budget is dispersed with students in mind "We try to make sure that the money goes toward whatever is going to benefit the highest num¬ ber of students," Daniels said. Over 35 percent of the funds thai the ASI will spend this academic year will go to ASI administration and operation expenses. Included in the administration funds, is about $40,000 in salaries for ASI secre- taries/aTid student assistants.
