By Ana Rocha Staff Writer Throughout die month of Feb¬ ruary special events starring well- known comedians, a reggae con¬ cert, along with the 3rd Annual Step Show will take place for African People's month. Opening ceremonies will start with die singing of the Black Na¬ tional Anthem and will take place at noon in The Pit on Feb. 1. A schedule of events for the entire month will be passed out to the pub¬ lic during the ceremonies. Step show The 3rd annual Fresno State Step Show will also be one of the main attractions during the month. This year there are 15 teams sched¬ uled to perform in the Satellite Stu¬ dent Union. "If there's ever a time for unity amongst all the African American fraternities and sororities, it's that weekend oftrte Step Show," said Keith Bolden president of Kappa Alpha Psi. Scheduled to perform are Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sigma Gamma Rho, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, and Alpha Phi Al¬ pha. Tickets are selling for $10 for Greeks and California State Univer¬ sity, Fresno students with an ID, and $15 for the general public. There will be a chance for the public to watch the Step Show live in the Upstairs Cafeteria with an $8 ad¬ mission fee. Movie magic The Black Experience Film Se¬ ries will feature "Dead Presidents" and "Clockers" on Feb. 7 and "Devil in a Blue Dress" along with "Sankofa," a film about how slaves fought to keep their culture alive, on Feb. 14. "The film made tons of money even though the film director Hali Gerima was told his film was not commercial enough to be success¬ ful and still it was a huge success with the support from the African American community," com¬ mented Keith Bolden, coordinator of the film series. The gospel There will also be "An After¬ noon of Praise Gospel Night" on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union. "Generally it's a night when various choirs from different churches join together in celebra¬ tion. Churches are also the founda¬ tion of most African Americans," said Tammi Moore chair of the Af¬ rican People's History Month plan¬ ning committee. Klub Nupe Another special attraction scheduled for the month is the first annual' Klub Nupe sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi. The event will take place in the Star Palace in Fresno on Feb. 16 from 9 p.m. un¬ til 2 a.m. A DJ and Various Glenn, a local hip-hop group will provide the entertainment. There will also be a step show performance by stu¬ dents from Hoover High School. Students and faculty in the local community will be honored for their dedication and continued service to the African American community. "I would like to see those indi¬ viduals who have shown i. great deal of commitment to the commu¬ nity and have tried to uplift the black community," said Tony Perry, African Student Union presi¬ dent. "I'm really looking forward to next month, which is filled with events for everybody to enjoy. Af¬ rican People's month is a wonder¬ ful event and I hope students take time out to attend the scheduled events," said Frankie Moore, advi¬ sor for African People's History Month. Step show
The 3rd annual Fresno State
Step Show will also be one of the
main attractions during the month.
