Freshman Sara Yudin scored the game-winner for tfie Bulldogs at the West Coast Women's Soccer Clas¬ sic, as they won the first game of their inaugural season. The win came after three straight losses, including a heart-breaking 1 - 0 defeat in the second overtime pe¬ riod to Chico State in the tournament's first game. Freshman goalkeeperTroyann Gentile had 18 saves agaipst the Wildcats and the Bulldogs had several strong chances at goals throughout, but Chico State was able to prevail with nine minutes left in overtime. But it was Sunday's game against Air Force that provided the weekend's highlight. With the Bulldogs and Falcons tied 2-2, Yudin received a feed on the right side off a free kick from freshman Michelle Hackett and curled it into the lower left corner for the score. Yudin also helped Fresno State get on the scoreboard first, just 3 minutes, 50 seconds into the match. After an Air Force foul, Yudin passed the free kick high in the air toward the right corner. The ball took a high bounce and was vol¬ leyed past Falcon goalkeeper Stephanie Jardin into the goal. But Air Force came back with two goals of their own before half- time. The Falcons' Katherine Love hit a magnificent shot from 20 yards out on the right that blazed into the upper right corner. Soon after that. Fresno State defender Cheryl Gano was not able to clear a loose ball near the Fresno State goal. Air Force's Jill Van Ess stole it and the game. The auto-goal set up Yudin's game-winner 13 minutes later, and Fresno State held on for the final three to give them an emotional win. The 'Dogs will face BYU on Friday, the only WAC team they face during the regular season. They will wrap the tournament up on Saturday with a match against UC Irvine. Fresno State does not play their first home game until September 22, when they debut in Bulldog Stadium against NAIA Westmont. The Fresno State women's soc¬
cer team made history again over
the weekend wiu\the first victory
in their short history, a dramatic 3-
2 defeat of Air Force in Chico, Ca¬
lif. Freshman Sara Yudin scored the
game-winner for tfie Bulldogs at the
West Coast Women's Soccer Clas¬
sic, as they won the first game of
their inaugural season.
The win came after three straight
losses, including a heart-breaking 1 -
0 defeat in the second overtime pe¬
riod to Chico State in the
tournament's first game. Freshman
