Zarr's desire to come toCSUF stems from his feeling that the, USU belongs to the'students. "Ifs my perception that the students don't look at the Union here as theirs/' he said, "and 1 want to create a Union that the campus does consider theirs."' Zarr said mat he took into consideration working at a four- year institution and moving West when deliberating on whether he should move to Fresno. He grew up m Pueblo, Colo, and enjoys the ' cultural mix that the West offers. His longer-term projects fo- cys on making the USU look nicer and serving student needs better. Three renovation and Building. projects will start this summer. The first project is renovation of the Food Court on the bottom ' floor of the USU building. Flans include new carpet and tile/but he also wants to redesign the Food Court to eliminate inefficiencies, suchasa20-minutewaitfortacos • during the lunch rush. The Food Court renovation should be done by the end of the summer. He also wants to redesign the north courtyard) which is located oprxjateoftheHtbehinatrteUSU. His visioh includes a more park- like setting instead of the current dirt-like setting. The courtyard renovation is scheduled to be com- ^ pleted by next fall term. "A third project is the con¬ struction of a new pavilion in the space between the University Stu¬ dent Umonbutfdingandthebook- store. He also sees it tilled with several retail shops, like flower and pretzel shops and a travel agency. , . ' -•» Other smaller projects in¬ clude instituting a graduate assis- tantship program and develop¬ ing more partnerships with the Associated Students, Inc., clubs, fraternities and sororities. He also wants to develop a Student Lead¬ ership Development Program ^vith workshops and classrooms designed to make students better leadens.
