By David John Chavez Staff writer It has almost been four months since Califomians spoke their minds on Proposition 187, the controversial Save Our {Jta te initiative that takes away social services from undocumented im¬ migrants. Even though the voters spoke, the chances of Prop. 187 going through are highly unlikely with recent court rulings. According to Gabriel Sandoval, spokesman for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF), the early court returns for the pro- 187 voters have not been pretty. The major sections of the proposition'have already been deemed unconstitutional by fed¬ eral and state courts. , %; At the federal level, sections that include law enforcement, social services, health care and K- 12 education will not affect un¬ documented immigrants. Despiteamajor media crunch leading up to the election for the proposition, which also fueled the gubernatorial race between in¬ cumbent Pete Wilson and candi¬ date Kathleen Brown, the public- ity has been very slow in regards to court injunction and results.
