He saicfthat he is willing to work with anybody. •* - '1 am a fighter and I am an, advocate for education," he said. "I am willing to work with every¬ body. Serving in the military, he learned to "look at a person by their heart, don't look at them by their color.'*' ^ Vega does not make snap decisions. He wants a matter to be fully investigated before he is asked to vote on it "1 always ask 'why?' That is my favorite word. If I don't have enough in f orm a tion I will need to investigatemore/'hesaid. "Ques¬ tion, questions, if you don't ask ' questions nothing will be an¬ swered for you." Both Vega and Navarette would like to see the senate oper¬ ate in a more professional man¬ ner. Vega asks that senators "please listenand respect the other • person," while Navarette would like to see the senate "work to¬ gether in a more respectable man¬ ner." Navarette describes himself as a more middle-of-the-road poli¬ tician, feeling strongly about is¬ sues that Would put him on the left and the right at the same time. "I am a liberal in that I am a minority and I am open to other cultures," he said, "and I am con- servativein that I don't think any¬ thing should be handed down because I am a minority." ^_ As for his ability to work well with his colleagues on the senate, he is uncertain "Ether 111 be able to get along with both sides or not at all. As long as I am true to my convictions 111 be doing my job." The other new senators join¬ ing Navarette and Vega are Xiong and Revis. Xiong is a freshman- appointed to represent unde¬ clared majors oh the senate and Revis takes over as senator-at- large, post #4. Tree Fresno, along with CSUF, hope to plan11,000 trees on campus bV the year 2000, said Susan Stiltz, executive director of^ Tree Fresno., "We have been doing a lot of work with Fresno State on tree care," Stiltz said, "and part of that is helping the friendstof the arbo¬ retum plant some new trees on campus and spruce up the arbo¬ retum." The trees, which will mature in about five years, are to replace the current row of trees along Maple Mall that are beginning to deteriorate.
