Student rommittees have been involved in most areas of decision making, she said. SThe residence renovation is partly in response to exit surveys gathered from past residents. "The buildings were in djsrepair, rooms needed painting, the fur¬ niture was old and except for lim¬ ited availability, almost all of it was community living," she said. New rooms will have verti¬ cal window coverings and secu¬ rity entrance cards. The commu¬ nity-style bathrooms have parti¬ tioned shower areas, which allow for more privacy, Dondero said. Suites will have inside bathrooms. ^— 'To be honest, they are still the residence halls, but what we've done is improve them to where the residents can be proud to live here," she said. Room carpeting is speckled maroon, gray-blue and gray. The new modular furniture has a light wood finish, which; allows stu¬ dents to.put their beds at any height, she said. The cost for living in the resi¬ dents halls next year includes: a furnished, air-conditioned double bedroom, meal plan, all utilities, basic cable service, local phone service, reserved parking for the first 300 residents, learning assis¬ tance center, educational pro¬ grams, social activities, laundry facilities, outdoor swimming pool and maintenance and community custodial services.
