/ Tuesday, March 1,1994 THE COLLEGIAN News—3 SEX OFFENDER: Fresno State Police warn women to stay awake and alert In library Snow believes women should not relax their guard just because they happen to be on a university cam¬ pus. Snow advises, women to be just as wary in the library as they would anywhere else. "Don't sleep there," SnoW said. "Know where the neafest^emer- gency phone is." The above incident, which oc¬ curred around 3 p.m. Feb. 9, led to the arrest of Fidel Isaac Tafoy a, 29, a man with a record for sexually molesting sleeping victims. Tafoya, a non-student, was apprehended two hours later by the victim's 25- year-old boy friend, Jaime Bautista, after an exhaustive search of die library. "She ran down to the second floor and told me," Bautista said about his girlfriend's actions after theattack. "She was very scared. If I had one word to describe it, it would be f-e-a-r. People like [Tafoya] shouldn't be around the school." A Madden Library administra¬ tor who refused to be identified said the library had no comment on the Tafoya incident, adding that it is library policy not to comment on such matters. • Bautista spotted Tafoya on the fourth floor of the library. The sus¬ pect was found crouched behind a female sitting at a table. . /S The victim, whose name cannot be released due to the nature of the crime, identified Tafoya as the man who fondled her and.Bautista de¬ tained him until the police arrived. Tafoya was placed under arrest and transported to the FSU police station where he was booked for sexual battery. Tafoya, described as a light- sldnned Hispanic with salt-and- pepper hair and a husky build, was an JSU student parking officer in 1988-89. Tafoya denied to police that he touched the victim. But Tafoya has a well-known track record of such activity.
