FSU: Dooley to lead 'Doge Parage will head the attack in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. The S-2, 96-pound Farage won the 10,000 meters at the WAC Championships last year with a season-best 37:31.83. - Hurdles: Missick, last season's WAC champion in the 100-meter hurdles, is Fresno State's top hope¬ ful in the event, while Lisa Collett and Cole rank third and fourth re¬ spectively all-time at FSU. * Freshman Ardin Harrison fig¬ ures to make an immediate impact in the long hurdles. Jumps: The Bulldogs should be in good shape with Jackson in the long and triple jumps. Cole also adds depth to the event Senior Kim Moshier will be the top competitor in the high jump, while Annemarie Travis, Susan Conlan and Amy Cheii add depth. Throwers: This is Pagani's big¬ gest area of concern with the loss of several seniors from last year's jav¬ elin, shot put and discus corps. He will count onf reshman Staci Darden and sophomore Krista Morales to step up and should get help from heptathletes Collett and Rachel Hudson. Heptathlon: Collett is the top returnee and goes into the season with a PR of 4,759 points in the event, No. 4 on FSU's all-time list. Hudson will provide depth to an area for FSU that is stinging from the loss of Bauer, the Bulldogs' record-holder in the heptathlon. "I don't have any doubts that we can finish as high as second again," Pagani says. "It's a mixed kind of situation because we're improved in some areas and not in others. So what's going to have to happen is our lead¬ ing athletes are just going to have to pick up the slack and come through a little bit more." Bulldog Bites Wrestlers to face Cal Poly-SLO By Chris Cocoles THECOLLEGIAN Though his wrestlers are a bit banged up, Fresno State coach Dennis DeLiddo is in a familiar position. FSU (12-5 in dual meets, ranked 1 lth) sported the same record at this point in 1993. That team went on to a Western Athletic Conference title and a school best, eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs continue a sue cestui, four-match homes tand with a dual meet against Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the North Gym. "I hope we end up just like last year. If we win our last four duals we'll finish 16-5 again. And we'd like another WAC championship and eighth place at the NCAA's," DeLiddo sajfl. That would all have to be coincidental though, and we're struggling with nagging injuries and youth." \ . The most serious of those injuries will keep heavyweight Zack Rix aut of action for at least a week. Rix (17-8) is suffering from a hand injury. Several Bulldogs are also feeling sore but will remain active. Cal Poly (7-5) bat wqn four consecutive dual meets, including an 18-16 decision over Brigham Young, who lost to WAC rival FSU 27- 5 last Saturday. The Bulldogs (3-0 WAC record) defeated the Mustangs 21-12 last season. "I don't know what to expect (from Cal Poly)." DeLiddo. said. "Thev could give us fits or we can get through without much trouble. But tney match up very well with us." The best match of the evening could bring together two 150- pounders ranked in the top 12 nationally. Fresno State's Terry Watts (2f>8) and the Mustangs' Jake Gaeir are ranked 12th and fifth, respectively in their weight class. The Bulldogs travel to the San Francisco Tournament on Saturday, when the best teams in California will Wrestle for Golden State bragging rights. Fresno State is the only California school ranked in the latest Amateur Wrestling News Top 20 poll. "We feel like we're the best program in the state, and we want to go up (to San Francisco) and prove it," DeLiddo said.
