Other construction projects in¬ clude installing new light poles, changing single left-turn lanes to double left-turn lanes and install¬ ing handicap ramps at the end of Accord ing to Cal-Trans, an es¬ timated 80,000 vehicles a day travel Shaw Avenue. And, as Fresno and Clovis resi¬ dents are probably well aware, traffic has gotten progressively worse in recent years. Actual construction on Shaw began last June and was sched¬ uled to be completed last Novem¬ ber. But, according to Kevin Brodie, the Cal-Trans engineer in charge of the project, unforeseen technical problems, design modi¬ fications and .the cold winter weather caused massive delays. 'It's not going as scheduled," Brodie said. "When designers say it takes two days to do somethi ng, in real¬ ity it may take four." Brodie is reticent to a give a projected completion date, but said he hopes the project can be completed early this summer, seven months or moreover sched¬ ule. At the work site on Shaw and Cedar, Julius Omwanghe, a Cal- Trans inspector, said that as far as actual performance of work is corn cemed, the project is going along just fine. "One of the things I did when I came back was to reorganize the curriculum so that the population of the students taking dance would increase," said Griffin. The new dance club, University Dance Theater Association (UDTA), organized this semester by the dance majors, has. a main priority to popularize dance among the student community. - "We are trying to make the de¬ partment bigger and let people know that there is dance in this��school," Reiss said "This club offers to the mem¬ bers, apart from thr dance activi-^ ties, master classes in modern dance where anybody can join and learn how to use their body to express themselves." Griffin explains the importance of dance at a university. 'It is important in terms of main¬ taining a university rather than a technical school," she said. If we are just going to teach people skills then we shouldn't call it a univer¬ sity."
