Majou S«tvic«t CONCERT Continued from page 2 quality to the concert without the unneeded -audience participation section which caused me to seek" die solace of a nearby drinking establishment. Massey is a very talented con¬ ductor. It was a real pleasure to . watch him direct the massive „ /^ chorus and orchestra, cueing the s orchestra with his left hand and the choir with his righL Unfortunately, his talents Sunday did not extend to his program selection. It is possible that this program approached the level of quality s , Fresno deserves. I was appalled that very few audience members chose to stand when Handel's Hallelujah Chorus was performed, which is similar to remaining seated for the National Anthem. As a lowly fourth horn for five seasons with the Humboldt State Symphony in Eureka, I witnessed five Christmas concerts where this chorus caused an immediate re¬ sponse from these far North coast heathens. A lot of talent went to waste last Sunday. Much has changed. Had Mr. Handorf done even a little investigation (something I childishly blame the catalog for student's problems, but to attack the Evaluations staff, to whom he did not IF I THOUGHT ALL THE STU¬ DENTS WE SEE WERE AS UPSET as Mr. handorf, I too WOULD DE CONCERNED. believe most responsible journalists do), or inter¬ viewed meor my staff, we could have offered him some clarifi¬ cations about his wild and uns ubs tan tia ted accu¬ sations. His uely slaps at the Evaluar- ors, the catalog, departmental advisors, me, and the President, were not only uninformed, but vicious and cruel. It's one thing to extend the courtesy of, an interview, is soph o- moricand irrespon¬ sible. Last year the Evaluations staff processed over 4,000 appli¬ cations for graduation; evaluations for over 5,000 transfer students, and over 3,5 00 Senior Evaluations (which most CSU campuses do not do). In addition, they saw over 12,000 students personally. If I thought all the students we see were as upset as Mr. Handorf , I too would be concerned. But since I (we) see very few complaining students from the population served, ICan oniry conclude that his sample of students for the ar¬ ticle was indeed very small. My staff and I encourage stu¬ dents to see us if they feel that the system or the University has not provided the academic services to which they are entitled. And to Mr. Handorf: since neither the Evaluations staff nor I have bad the pleasure of his acquaintance, a personal invitation to discuss with me his allegations and complaints.
