The FSU women's soccer team raised their record to 7-0-1 with a 1-0 blanking of San Diego State on Saturday. Head coach Carol Lauchner thinks the 'Dogs are right where they need to be. "We played pretty well, but we had a problem capttaliz- J> n i ■'. " Lauchner said. Lauchner commended her Ban¬ dogs on playing a good defen¬ sive game, although they were seldom able to get in scoring position. - "We're doing okay," she said. "Right now we're in the process of finding If people who can play together." Depth and a large roster plays an important role with these 'Dogs. "It's a big team we have, and also we have plenty of talent," Lauchner said/'Thegoal we have is to find the right mix, and have our talent and chemistry down pat." Fresno State women's soccer is recognized by the athletic depart¬ ment, but is not an official Bulldog intercollegiate sport ■ The day will not come soon enough when women's sports get equal respect with men's athletics, awarding to Lauchner. "It would be a big benefit to the ' school if we were an added pro¬ gram," Lauchner said. "Fresno State has gotten a well-respected reputa¬ tion in sports recently, and I think (his would attract more attention." "We have enough talent to make it work, we just need backing by the school," she added. The much-publicized Title IX rating that required universities to make athletic programs equal in quality has recieved bad reviews from skeptics.' V ripponents fear that men's sports will deteriorate by allowing women's athletics to be \trumpedup. "I don't want that to happen," Lauchner said. "I want our sports to be equa]> but not at the cost of another." " She said that while the ruling has been slow in mak-j ing an impact, it shouldn' t make bad blood among sports departments. "The thing I don't want is to have (Title DC) cre¬ ating dissent," said Lauchner. "If a sport is taken away because of the requirement, it doesn't do any pro¬ gram any good."
