Fresno will host two ofthe hun¬ dreds of writers partici¬ pating in the second an¬ nual "Writers' Harvest: The National Reading," a literary benefit to raise money to combat hunger today. Funds from the har¬ vest, and 200 more throughout the U.S. and Canada, will be used by Share Our Strength, a non-profit hunger relief agency.1, itSthy Fagan, a CSUF '^_- al u mn us cu rrently teach¬ ing at Ohio State University, and "/ Michael White, a Humboldt State University professor, will partici¬ pate in tbe program with a poetry reading at the Fresno Art Museum. White has won the Academy of American Poets prize three times and is the author of a chapbook, "This Water," and "The Island ," "Poetry is a spoken art and was originally a spoken art, way back in the yery beginning. It's something that has been too long for¬ gotten." . —Liza Wieland and has published poems in vari¬ ous literary reviews; ' Kathy Fagan has also published poems in literary reviews, and she is the author of a new collection, "Moving and St Rage." "It's for a good cause," said Liza Wieland, an assistant profes¬ sor in the English department at CSUF who is coordinat¬ ing Fresno's contribu¬ tion. "And it's a chance to see two poets that are at the. beginning of two very promising careers." Wieland also coordi¬ nated last year's event which featured local po¬ ets. She said she asked Fagan and White this year to bring new people into the area. All three met at the University of Utah ___, where they were doing graduate work.
