CPS: Some incoming
freshmen at the Univer¬
sity of Dayton got a
headstart on
transitioning from high
school to college with the
aid of paid upperclass
students who gave tips
and advice on how to
survive school.
The University of
Dayton's STAR (Study
Techniques and Aca¬
demic Reinforcement)
program is different from
other supplemental
programs around the
nation because it draws
students to campus the
summer before their
freshman year and
doesn't focus on high-
risk courses, school
officials said.
The upperclass stu¬
dents tok the same
courses that the Incom¬
ing freshmen do. and led
small-group discussions.
They even tried to pre¬
dict questions the pro¬
fessors asked on exams.
