Ng attributes the rising number of incidents of Southeast Asian gang fighting to being symptom¬ atic of the often "traumatic, diffi¬ cult adjustment made by Asian refugees to American society." "As long as someone has learned something about Amerasian cul¬ ture, we have done our job," said Nguyen. "The goal is to (foster) peace at these functions." Amerasia Week also features a cultural diversity forum to be held for the first time this year. The forum, titled "Diversity Among Southeast Asians," focuses on variations in Asian customs. It will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Upstairs CafeteriaRoom 200. Scheduled to make presentations at the forum are Vinh Ngo, a Viet¬ namese, who is the health and safety director at Fresno-Madera Red . Cross; Aline Tea, a Cambodian social worker; and Her Yan, a Hmong CSUF graduate student Amerasia Week wraps up on March 6 from 7 p.m. to. 10 p.m. with a Festival Night celebration. Festival Night, which will take plr.ee in the Satellite Student Union, will feature Japanese drum music from the Fresno Gumyo Taiko Group and the Sanjo Dance Group. As President Clinton and first . lady Hillary Clinton swooped through 11 inaugural balls Jan. 20, it became apparent to anyone i watching the estimated 63,000 black-tie-reveles that this admin¬ istration was going to be different. The saxophone-playing presi¬ dent delighted throngs at the inau¬ gurals balls by jamming with five different bands. At the Arkansas ball, he accompanied legendary rock musician Benli. King, who wrote the song, "Your Momma Don't Dance and.Your Daddy Don't Rock V Roll." Later, Clinton hit a few.sour notes when he joined Clarence Clemmons and the E Street.Band on a version of James Brown's "Night Train." Clinton was self-deprecatory about his ability, but Clemmons said the president did all right. "If s good to know that he has some¬ thing to fall back on in case this presidency doesn't work out," Clemmons told reporters. _ During the campaign, Clinton promised to return to MTV, and he did. MTV"s Rock V Roll Inau¬ gural ball was one of the hottest ticket events in Washington on in¬ augural night j__ Clinton and his wife showed up ' briefly at the music television channel's party and told the crowd that he still believed in the Rock the Vote campaign that registered so many young voters. "I fought this campaign because I want you to have a better future," he said before infoducing his wife and daughter, Chelsea, who may have bested her father in terms of audience response. The first daughter broke into a wide grin as the frenzied crown began to chant, "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea!" Even Vice President Al Gore danced (or at least tried to) with his wife Tipper atone ball. And, when the Gores showed up at the MTV ball, the vice president worked the crowd like he was still campaign¬ ing, o Gore said the Clinton-Gore ticket won the election because of young voters like those who attended the MTV ball or watched the festivi¬ ties on TV. "We rocked the vote, all right.
